About You:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced professional to lead environmental permitting and compliance projects across California. This role will involve applying your expertise in biology, regulatory frameworks, and project management to oversee a variety of environmental initiatives. You will be responsible for managing both moderately complex and large-scale biological assessments and ensuring successful project delivery for our diverse client base. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and enjoys working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

As an Environmental Project Manager, you will be integral to overseeing field surveys, conducting impact analyses, coordinating permitting efforts, and producing technical reports. You will work directly with clients, manage internal project teams, and help drive business growth. The position offers a mix of office-based tasks and fieldwork, with some travel primarily within the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Area. Occasional overnight trips may also be required.

What you get to do:

  • Project Leadership: Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects, managing biological assessments, compliance documentation, and permitting tasks.

  • Project Management: Oversee project schedules, resources, and deliverables to ensure timely and within-budget completion. Coordinate data collection and ensure quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes are followed.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Provide guidance on environmental laws and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels, including CEQA, NEPA, and other relevant permitting frameworks.

  • Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients to plan and execute environmental projects, offering technical expertise in areas such as biological studies, mitigation measures, and compliance monitoring.

  • Business Development: Prepare proposals, budgets, and other materials to support business growth. Participate in marketing efforts, client outreach, and networking.

  • Supervision and Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of 2-4 professionals, providing direction, feedback, and support in project tasks. Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.

  • Communication: Maintain clear and open communication with clients, staff, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and expectations.

  • Professional Development: Attend industry conferences, webinars, and technical meetings to stay current with best practices and build client relationships.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of combined experience in project management, with at least 3 years managing environmental consulting projects. Strong background in biology and environmental compliance is preferred.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Proficient understanding of CEQA, NEPA, and other relevant state and federal environmental regulations.

  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated success in leading project teams and mentoring junior staff. Ability to manage diverse tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Technical Skills: Experience in preparing biological assessments, environmental reports, and other regulatory documentation. Familiarity with field survey methods and impact analysis.

  • California Experience: Familiarity with environmental issues, regulations, and practices specific to California is a plus.

We’re looking for a proactive, solutions-oriented professional who is ready to make a meaningful impact on both our team and the environment. If you are passionate about environmental consulting and eager to take on a leadership role, we encourage you to apply!
